LAF soil amendment

A fermented amendment made from local food waste, wood chips and acid whey. It is made in Humboldt County, for Humboldt County soil.

Two rows of young brassica plants in a garden bed. The plants in the right-hand row are roughly twice the size of those in the left-hand row. No amendment Amended with LAF
Two rows in the same bed. The row on the right went into soil amended with LAF. The row on the left went into the same soil without it.

What it does in the ground

The photo shows a single bed. Before planting, we worked LAF into the soil under one row and left the other row alone.

The amendment returns the nutrients and organic matter in food to the soil, in a form that soil life goes on breaking down after it is applied.

How growers use it

  • Work it into the soil ahead of planting
  • Use it in beds, rows and around perennials
  • Talk to us about rates for your crop and soil

Acid whey

From local dairies, to drive the fermentation.
